Struggling to juggle work and family life while caring for an older relative?
Let one of our warm, friendly Day Brighteners step in when you can’t be there.
We bring companionship, conversation and comfort to older people living alone – with a personal touch that families have trusted since 2007. We’re a small, local service that’s been brightening days and lifting spirits for nearly 18 years. Visits start from just £27, and you can try us with absolutely no commitment.
We’d love to tell you more about how we work and how we carefully choose every Day Brightener.

“We want to thank you all so much. Without your care and support me and John would not have been able to get through these last few months without any respite. Because we knew she was in safe hands and got to see her smiling! On the lovely photos you sent us, it reassured us greatly that she was having a great time! It helped us relax and we got to see our lovely 4 year old grandson together!
Through you lovely ladies looking after mum it allowed us to put our feet up, watch a movie together and order a takeaway and relax. Things we have not been able to do together for the last few years. What you all do is so important to families like me, John and Betty. You’re all worth your weight in gold. We really can’t thank you enough, you all are angels that came to help.”
Ever worry that they’re missing out on the little moments of joy that they deserve?
Maybe your mum loves a stroll by the river and a catch-up over coffee, but since giving up her driving licence, those trips have been few and far between. You’d love to take her yourself, but juggling your work and family life means it’s just not that simple.
Or perhaps your grandad used to be the life and soul of the local bowling club, but since his mobility took a knock, he’s struggled to keep up with his usual routine – and has lost touch with his old friends. You can tell he misses it, but you just can’t be in two places at once.
It’s hard. You want the best for them. But life doesn’t always make it easy.
And that’s where we come in.
Our warm and friendly team of Day Brighteners are here to bring companionship, conversation and the simple joy of connection back into their life, when you aren’t able to.
Whether it’s helping them keep up with hobbies, popping out to the shops together or simply enjoying a good chat over a cup of tea, we’re there to brighten their day and ease your mind.
Because for us, it’s personal.
We treat every client like they are part of the family, and we’ll keep you updated every step of the way so you always know they’re in safe, caring hands.
We love to chat!

Jane has become part of the family… mum adores her and has so much fun on their trips out. Jane’s amazing and sends me pictures as I live in Spain and can’t be there. I can’t thank Jane enough for putting a smile back on my mums face.”
Sarah founded Vi-VA Assist back in 2007, after experiencing first-hand how difficult it was to find the right kind of support for her beloved Nan. What she wanted wasn’t ‘care’ in the traditional sense – it was genuine companionship and practical help that would allow her Nan to stay active, independent and truly enjoy life. Her personal journey sparked a passion that has since grown into a dedicated service supporting older people across Chester and the Wirral.
At the heart of everything is the wonderful Assist team. Kind, compassionate individuals who genuinely love the work they do, and care for their clients like family. They take pride in brightening peoples days, offering friendly, reliable companionship and one-to-one support that makes a real difference – helping people feel seen, valued and connected.
Having lived in Chester for most of her life, Sarah is now proud to lead a service that brings so much warmth and joy to the local community.
Our aim is simple – to brighten our clients’ day each time we visit them.

Who says gigs are only for the teenagers...
A great day out for Liz and her day brightener Caroline.
Liz, who has been a member of the Foster and Allen Fan Club for 28 years, was taken to see Foster and Allen perform in Shrewsbury, before going back stage to meet them.
What a dream come true!

Chris and Gill
One of our clients, Chris, had been unable to to visit her close friend Gill – who she describes as like a sister to her – simply because she had no one to take her.
It was absolute pleasure to be able to get these two together once again.

Beryl and Joy
Beryl and Joy went to school together and were great friends, but they hadn’t seen each other for 60 years.
We thought 60 years was a bit too long, so our day brighteners organised a reunion for these old friends. So lovely to see them back together again.
“Liz, thanks for turning my grey day into one of pleasure, your laugh is infectious and I’m very grateful for it! Keep doing what you do do so well.
Blessed to have found Viva Assist and now we couldn’t do without them.”

We love a BIG celebration!
Birthdays are always an excuse for a celebration, especially when it’s a big one!
Here’s one of our clients, Lorna, celebrating her 100th birthday in style.
Have a great day Lorna!
Even lockdown didn’t keep our clients down!
As the pandemic hit in 2020, we weren’t able to visit our clients quite as easily. It meant we needed new ways of bringing them companionship and care. So we contacted a local primary school in Chester where keyworker children were still attending and asked them if they’d like to help us in our mission to keep in touch with our clients by writing letters.
Our clients, many of whom were feeling lonely with no face to face visits taking place, absolutely loved receiving the children’s letters and some wonderful conversations were shared.
“Our family are immensely grateful to Liz and Courtenay for the wonderful friendship, human warmth, love and care they gave our 90 year old mum, Eileen.
Whether in Eileen’s own home, the care home, a long night in A&E or waiting for an x-ray at the hospital, they were there, always going the extra mile to ensure she felt loved and cared for. We really cannot praise them too highly.”

Our client Eric loves visiting the local sites here in Chester.
Whether it’s a boat trip on the River Dee, a visit to Gladstone Library or enjoying an ice cream by the bandstand, we love making Eric smile.

Saying a final farewell

The Assist team raise a glass to Joan
We raised a glass to one of our clients, Joan, in celebration of her life.
Joan, who had no family, had a passion for feeding the birds, so the team gathered together to scatter her ashes at Hatchmere and read a lovely poem about birds.
“I am so pleased that I was introduced to Viva. Our ‘carers’ have made a huge difference to our lives. No longer do we feel isolated. So many activities have been offered to my husband.
Thank you.”

A day out at the ice cream farm

Enjoying a glass of wine
Audrey and her day brightener Jane love a day out!
You’ll often find them indulging in the delights of the ice cream farm or sampling the latest lunch menu at the local pub.
Cheers Audrey!

Eilleen visits Hollies Farm Shop

We’re so lucky to have so many great places to visit here in Chester and the Wirral.
